The obvious difference is: if it’s not an iPhone, it’s not an iPhone.
Jokes apart, or slogans apart, this is exactly the point that makes it better over others. Not just the saying, but the package it brings with it. The iPhone ecosystem and the brand itself are enough for people to buy it, but when that is combined with the top performing processor of these times, available in the same price bracket of the competition, makes it a no brainer.
Well, you can’t exactly skip OnePlus 8 either. It offers an amazing Fluid AMOLED display, which has vivid colours, HDR10+ support and above all it offers 90Hz refresh rate. Along with Snapdragon 865, it has bigger battery with around 30W wired and wireless charge. It has triple camera setup, which would cater to wider range of photography needs.
Which one to choose and why?
iPhone SE 2
– 4.7″ Retina IPS LCD
– A13 Bionic Chip: The top performing chip of iPhone 11 series, now available in a compact iPhone SE body. This is much faster when compared to the Snapdragon 865 processor on OnePlus 8.
– Touch ID on the Home Button.
– IP67 water and dust resistance. Which is not available on OnePlus 8.
– Wireless Charging; Works with Qi chargers. (Sold separately. But if you have one already, you can use it)
[Wireless charging isn’t available on OnePlus 8]
– Fast Charger support 18W or higher [sold separately]; Up to 50% in 30 minutes.
– iOS 13; It’ll get updates for four to five years.
– Starts at Rs. 42,500. That low price for A13 Bionic is pretty good deal. If performance at low price is what you need.
– Storage variants available from 64GB up to 256GB.
– All of this in a small package that’ll fit into your palms comfortably, when compared to most smartphone in the market. Especially, OnePlus 8, which is pretty big with 6.55″ screen and bigger body.

OnePlus 8
– Smooth matte glass finish on the back, that would prevent fingerprints or glare.
– Slim and Sleek curved design, with minimal bezels. But, it’s a big phone.
– 6.55″ Fluid AMOLED with Punch Hole design and 90 Hz refresh rate. That’s a display with minimal-to-no distractions like bezels or notches. Amazing to consume content or just day to day use.
– 4300 mAh battery.
– Warp Charge 30T; 0-50% in 22 minutes. It has USB Type C port.
– Big battery and fast charging go hand-in-hand. It’s the combination one wants and needs.
– 48MP Triple camera setup. Caters to larger range of photography needs.
– Starts at Rs. 41,999 with 128GB storage in the base variant; Available up to 256GB.
– Dolby Atmos Dual Stereo Speakers.
– Dual Nano SIM support. iPhone SE (2020) also offers dual SIM, but it’s Nano + eSIM.
– Dual 4G SIM and single 5G SIM operations supported. Upgrade for 5G/4G or 5G/5G support will be provided via OTA update. If you’re into 5G and want to have a phone you can use with 5G in coming future, then this is your phone. At least, as of now.
The US or Global pricing of iPhone SE 2020 is $399, whereas OnePlus 8 has a price tag of $699.
When you compare that to Indian pricing, it’s more favorable to OnePlus here. While people in US might go to the iPhone more easily, if they go by the affordable pricing or the ecosystem.
iPhone SE 2020 will go on sale on 24th April, in the USA. While you can pre-order now. Indian availability isn’t known yet.
OnePlus 8 is going on sale on 21st April, in UK and Europe; And 29th April, in USA.
Now, both can’t be compared directly, as both have different target consumer base, so it will entirely depend on your requirements and personal preference. But, if you purely go by the price, then this comparison should’ve helped you make the final decision.
