Redmi Y2 vs Honor 9 Lite Camera Comparison

Hey, there! This is a camera comparison between Redmi Y2 and the Honor 9 Lite.
So, here are the camera specifications of both the phones:

Redmi Y2 comes with dual rear camera setup of 12 megapixel with f/2.2 aperture + 5 megapixel for depth sensing.
On the front, it has 16 megapixel camera with dedicated LED flash.

Honor 9 Lite comes with a 13 megapixel + 2 megapixel dual rear camera setup, with dedicated LED flash. On the front, again it has 13 megapixel + 2 megapixel dual rear camera setup.

Let us get right into it:-

HDR Mode:

These are sample shots taken in daylight and well-lit conditions with HDR turned on, on both phones.

Images shot on Honor look bright and colors are slightly faded. But, images on Y2 look a bit dark with more color contrast. Capturing speeds and sharpness are better on Honor for HDR images. I’d prefer Honor 9 Lite, because of the bright natural look. You might be able to edit images from Redmi Y2 to make them look better but right out of the box, images from Honor look better.

Without HDR:

These are some pictures taken without HDR on Honor and with Auto-HDR on Redmi.

Colors are noticeably to the warmer side on Honor, while Redmi has good color balance. In terms of color reproduction both are raw. Images from honor are over-exposed and warm, while images from Redmi look a bit dark with more contrast and lacks sharpness. Redmi might do a better job if we turn off HDR mode. So, for rear cameras you can pick the winner yourself, but I prefer Honor.

Portrait Mode:

These are some sample pictures.

Edge detection and background blur effect is good on both phones. In bad lighting conditions like when there is a bright background, shots on Redmi are a bit faded. On Honor they are
still clean. Even in terms of overall brightness and color reproduction I like the shots from Honor. For Portrait mode, I’ll pick Honor 9 Lite as the winner.

Low-Light Performance:

These are some sample pictures taken in low-light indoor conditions.

On first look, there isn’t a huge difference between both phones, but there is a subtle difference in color temperature. Colors are to the warmer side on Honor, while Redmi has good color balance. Images from Redmi are a bit dark with more contrast, while images from Honor also look a bit similar. For this round you can pick the winner based on your preference.

Selfies:

These are some shots taken in daylight and well-lit conditions, without HDR on both phones.

Both phones come with selfies-centric cameras and take equally wide selfies in good lighting conditions. Selfies from both phones look good, but in bad lighting conditions when there is a
bright background, selfies from Honor look better in terms of exposure control and skin tones. Even in terms of color reproduction, Honor did a better job. So, for selfies I’ll pick 9 Lite as the winner.

Portrait Selfies:

These are the sample shots.

Edge detection and background blur effect is good on both phones, but I personally like the portrait selfie shot on Honor. They have good exposure control, good color reproduction and they just look good.

Now, coming to low-light performance, These are selfies taken in low-light indoor conditions.

Even in low-light, Honor takes better selfies. They have better color reproduction and they are a bit warm, but still look good.

Video:

We can record video on both phones at a maximum of 1080p. But, Redmi offers electronic image stabilization while Honor doesn’t. So, the footage from Redmi looks more stable, while the footage from Honor looks shaky.
Coming to the footage quality, footage from Redmi looks a bit darker with colors having more contrast, while footage from honor looks bright with close to accurate colors. So, I like
the footage from Honor, but just because of stabilization I’ll pick Redmi Y2 as the winner.

Front camera video: Footage from Honor looks a bit over-exposed, but has better skin tones and good color reproduction. So, for front camera video recording, footage from Redmi also looks good but comparatively I like the footage from Honor. You can pick the winner based on your preference but I’ll go with Honor.

To conclude, there isn’t a huge difference between both the phones, it’s all about your personal preference and what kind of images you like. But for me on the whole I like the camera performance of the on Honor 9 Lite over Redmi Y2.

If you are a normal user, you can take better pictures with the Honor 9 Lite. If you are a photography enthusiast and know how to take better pictures, Redmi Y2 might be a better pick for you.
