Hey, there! Today we’re comparing the cameras of Redmi Y2 and RealMe 1. So, let’s look at the camera specifications of both the phones:
Redmi Y2 comes with dual rear camera setup of 12 megapixel with f/2.2 aperture + 5 megapixel for depth sensing.
On the front, it has 16 megapixel camera with dedicated LED flash.
RealMe 1 comes with a single 13 megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture.
On the front it has 8 megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture.
HDR Mode:
Both the phones support Auto-HDR for both the front and rear cameras. These are some sample shots taken in day light and well-lit conditions, with Auto-HDR on.
While taking HDR images, capturing speeds are faster on RealMe 1 and Y2 took a second or two. Images from RealMe 1 look a bit over-exposed and colours are to the warmer side. There’s a significant difference in colour reproduction between these two phones. Images from RealMe 1 look more bright and colours are pleasing. Images from Y2 are close to reality. Dynamic range and exposure control are better on RealMe 1. There was no issue with focusing, on both the phones and you also get a bokeh effect.
Now, the difference between rear cameras of both the phones is all about colour reproduction. So, you can pick the best one based on your preference. I’d pick RealMe 1 for the faster capturing speeds and I personally like bright and vivid colors.
Portrait Shots:
Edge detection looks better on Redmi Y2 due to the dual camera setup.
Edge detection on RealMe 1 isn’t that accurate, but the images look cleaner, brighter with good color reproduction. So, if you want accurate portrait shots, Y2 is the winner. But, if you don’t mind slight inaccuracy with good looking pictures, RealMe 1 is the winner. It’s based on your choice.
Low Light Shots:
Just like with the day light shots, images on RealMe 1 are bright and colors are to the warmer side with fast capturing speeds.
On Y2, colours are have more contrast, while RealMe has close to accurate colours. Almost all images look better on RealMe 1, but lack sharpness when we zoom in, which is a downside of faster capturing speed. So, Redmi Y2 is the winner for better sharpness and less visible noise.
Selfies:
Selfies look good on both the phones with a difference in colour reproduction and exposure level.
Most of the time, Redmi Y2 is performing better in good lighting conditions and RealMe 1 is performing better in bad lighting conditions. Again, you can pick the winner based on your preference, I’ll pick RealMe 1 as the winner.
Portrait Selfies:
As both phones have single camera and use some software processing, edge detection isn’t perfect on both the phones.
But, it’s comparatively better on Redmi Y2. Just like the regular selfies, you get wider portrait selfies on RealMe 1 with better colours. Most of the times, shots look better on RealMe 1. So, for portrait selfies, I’ll pick RealMe 1 as the winner.
Low Light Selfies:
Selfies form RealMe 1 are wide with better colour reproduction, better exposure and better skin tones.
On Y2, colours look faded and selfies are soft.
Video:
On both phones, we can record only at a maximum of 1080p but Redmi Y2 offers Image stabilization while RealMe 1 doesn’t. So, the footage looks more stable and more usable on Redmi Y2.
There’s a huge difference in terms of footage quality, too. It looks over-exposed on RealMe 1, with warm colours. While on Redmi, it looks a bit under-exposed and colours have more contrast.
So, for rear camera video recording I’ll pick Redmi Y2 as the winner, especially for the electronic image stabilization.
Front Camera recording: Both phones lack stabilization for the front camera, but in terms of footage quality there’s a huge difference. Footage from RealMe 1 is a bit over-exposed, while on Redmi Y2, it has good exposure control and good dynamic range. So, for front camera video recording, I’ll pick Redmi Y2 as the winner.
In conclusion, there isn’t a clear winner. As with Redmi Y2, you have to compromise a little with selfies and with RealMe 1 you have to compromise with video recording as it doesn’t have any stabilization and edge detection in portrait shots isn’t as good as Redmi Y2.
So, I’ll say cameras on both the phones are pretty good. They have their own pros and cons. If you’re choosing between these two phones, consider other things like the lack of a fingerprint scanner in RealMe 1 and lack of performance and good display on Redmi Y2. Think about these things and pick the winner. As for me, if I had to buy a phone under 10,000 rupees, as a normal user I’ll go with the RealMe 1. But, I’ll try to go with the 4GB RAM variant or if possible, 6GB RAM variant.
