RealMe 1 comes in two variants: 3GB RAM | 32GB ROM priced at ₹ 8,990.
The 6GB RAM | 128 GB ROM variant costs ₹ 13,990.

There’s another variant which falls in between these two 4GB RAM | 64 GB ROM which is available for ₹ 10,990.

Redmi Note 5 also comes in two variants: 3GB RAM | 32 GB ROM priced at ₹9,999.

And the 4GB RAM | 64GB ROM variant which is at ₹11,999.

As this is a camera comparison, let’s take a look at the camera specifications:

RealMe1 comes with a Single 13MP camera which has f/2.2 aperture single LED flash.

Front camera has 8MP with f/2.2 aperture.

Redmi Note 5 also has single rear camera: 12MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and dual-tone dual-LED flash.

Front Camera: 5MP camera with a soft LED light.

HDR Mode:

RealMe 1 supports Auto-HDR and Redmi doesn’t. So, these are some pictures taken on RealMe 1 with Auto-HDR on, and on Redmi Note 5 with HDR on.

Capturing speeds on RealMe are very fast, while on Redmi it takes like a second or two. Now, with that being said, if you can hold the phone steady and wait a second or two, you get better shots on Redmi, with better sharpness and better color reproduction.

Colors on Redmi are to the warmer side, and it’s easily noticeable when compared to RealMe, side by side.

In HDR mode Redmi Note 5 definitely takes better pictures, but you need to know when you have to use it

and when you shouldn’t. With RealMe, it’s Auto-HDR, so it’ll take care of everything for you.

Without HDR:

These shots were taken on RealMe 1 with Auto-HDR on, as it has that feature, and with HDR off on in Redmi Note 5.

Capturing speeds are equally good on both phones. Images from RealMe are a bit over-exposed. Colors are to the warmer side and look more pleasing.

Because of Auto HDR mode, RealMe 1 sometimes does a better job but, lacks sharpness. On the whole, for rear cameras, if you know a little about photography then Redmi Note 5 will be better. If you simply take pictures in Auto Mode and want better shots, RealMe is better.

Portrait mode:

Both phones come with only a single camera, but still RealMe offers this feature and Redmi Note 5 doesn’t.

As you can see, the edge detection isn’t accurate, but Redmi doesn’t even have Portrait mode.

Low light Performance:

Indoors: RealMe does a better job. It has good color reproduction, less noise and images are more sharper. Once again capturing speeds are slower on Redmi.

Outdoor: Images from both phones look bright with slight variation in color reproduction.

On the whole, Redmi has better exposure control, so it has an edge over there.

Selfies:

RealMe 1 has auto HDR. It takes wider selfies with good color reproduction, good expo control and it’s simply better.

Redmi doesn’t have wide angle lens, so selfies aren’t that wide. It doesn’t even have HDR mode.

Portrait Selfies:

On RealMe 1 we can take portrait selfies. And on Redmi we don’t get that feature.

Even in indoor lighting conditions RealMe takes wider, brighter and sharper selfies.

In low lighting outdoor conditions, Redmi has better exposure control and good color reproduction. But, we’ll pick RealMe as the winner, as it has the wider selfies.

On the whole, for selfies RealMe 1 is way better than Redmi Note 5.

Video:

In Redmi, we can record at 4K resolution, but on RealMe, we can only record at 1080p resolution.

There’s no optical image stabilization on either of them, so footage from both the phones look shaky. Footage on RealMe is a bit over-exposed and has faded look, at the same time it has fast exposure shift. We call this round as a tie, and you can pick the best one based on your preference. To watch and choose which one you like the best, don’t forget to watch our video on this comparison.

Front camera footage is over-exposed on RealMe, while footage on Redmi looks more natural and accurate. But, with RealMe, you get a wide-angle footage.

In conclusion, RealMe 1 cameras are definitely better and offer more features than the Redmi Note 5. Front camera is also better on RealMe 1. When it comes to the rear camera, it depends on your choice.
